POSITION SUMMARY: The Machine Repair Apprentice will perform repair maintenance and job change duties as assigned in the Machine Repair and Forming areas. He/she is responsible for successfully completing 8000 hours in plant and out of plant
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job effectively an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in a satisfactory manner - with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Performs machine shop work relative to the fabrication, assembly, or repair of the I.S. machines and equipment.
- Performs machine shop work including feeders, stackers or other related equipment.
- Performs all work necessary to get ware into lehrs.
- Ability to read blueprints of production equipment.
- Ability to adapt new or rebuilt equipment to plant requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot all equipment that is not running properly.
- Conduct periodic inspections of equipment and takes corrective action when necessary.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Participants will be enrolled in the federally approved Bureau of Apprenticeship Training joint Apprenticeship Program and maintain GPA per program requirements.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum education, experience, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the job.
- Must be able to understand, read, speak and write in English.
- Must be able to meet all requirements of the Joint Apprenticeship Program.
- Successfully complete 8000 hours OJT in the plant.
- Successfully complete all related courses at a Junior College.
- Must pass all reviews performed by Supervision and the Apprenticeship Committee.
- Must pass Bennett mechanical and job related testing.
- Demonstrate ability to perform arithmetical calculations including electrical resistance.
- Demonstrate ability to understand procedures in glass melting process.
- Demonstrate ability to read and understand gauges, instruments and operate various furnace controls.
- Demonstrate ability to make adjustments when heating and cooling a furnace.
- Ability to work regular day shifts and rotating shift when needed (24-7-365)
- Ability to follow departmental and plant S.O.P.’s.
- Maintain general housekeeping and 5S.
- Ability to be on call 24/7
