Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The IS Operator will learn the trade of IS Machine Operation. He/She will perform a variety of tasks over the course of a 4000 hour apprenticeship if not already a Journeyman.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To perform this job effectively an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in a satisfactory manner - with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Communicate with the Team Lead, Operator, IS Specialist and Shift Supervisor to understand job quality, machine or equipment, and the bottle making process.
- Use tools and gauges to make quality checks and record information on appropriate documentation.
- Preforms swabbing on machinery and check machine operation according to established guidelines.
- Make adjustments or repairs to above processes under the direction of the Journeyman or Specialist.
- Ability to learn to assist with job changes, mold changes, ring changes, and machine set-up from a stripped machine to quality production.
- Ensure all safety devices used in the operation of the machines are used.
- Maintain equipment and working area in clean and organized condition.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum education, experience, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the job.
- Must be able to understand, read, speak and write in English.
- Must pass Bennett mechanical and job related testing with a 68% or higher.
- Demonstrate ability to perform arithmetical calculations including electrical resistance.
- Demonstrate ability to understand procedures in glass melting process.
- Demonstrate ability to read and understand gauges, instruments and operate various furnace controls.
- Demonstrate ability to make adjustments when heating and cooling a furnace.
- Ability to work regular day shifts and rotating shift when needed (24-7-365)
- Ability to follow departmental and plant S.O.P.’s.
- Maintain general housekeeping and 5S.
- Ability to be on call 24/7
